The curse of Easter

Crucifixion is something that is part of a bygone era. When people are executed these days, other forms of killing are chosen… whether it’s electric chair, lethal injection, or other means.

The problem with this is that we have almost romanticised the cross of Christ, and in doing so, we have dampened the true horror of this awful tool of pain and suffering.

But for Jesus, it was more than just pain and suffering: it was also humiliation and scorn.

In Galatians chapter 3 verse 13, we are reminded that ‘Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.”’

This Easter, let’s not forget the cost of the cross for Christ, and how by being cursed he set us free from the curse of the law which leads to eternal death.
