Being alert but not alarmed

alert-not-alarmedWe had all hoped that the days of terror after the September 11 attacks would not return to our shores too soon.

Yet as the national security threat level rose last week, it was quickly followed by arrests that allegedly foiled an imminent attack upon civilians.

This news unsettles us and it weakens the confidence we have come to enjoy in the Australian sense of security.

Yet even though we pray that acts of terror do not eventuate on our soil, we can be thankful to God for the reminder that life on earth is uncertain and unstable.

That is why we need to have the certainty of the real hope that comes only through the real Jesus.

As we are reminded in Psalm 46, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea”

Pray that those who do terror might be stopped and that all the people of our nation find real hope in the real Jesus.
