Unfaithful Marriage

unfaithful marriage

‘Life is short, have an affair’ is the tagline of the adultery dating website ‘Ashley Madison’. This week Ashley Madison’s website was hacked and held ransom by a group known as ‘The Impact Team’. The hackers threated to release the information of those who had signed up, bringing to light infidelity and potentially causing many already broken marriages to crumble.

In the Bible, God uses a broken and unfaithful marriage to depict the pain and heartache that our rebellion has caused him. Over the next few weeks as we read through the book of Hosea we see that God uses the example of the prophet who remains faithful to his promiscuous wife as an illustration for the way in which God remains faithful to His unfaithful people.

Through the Lord Jesus, the faithful bridegroom these words find their fulfilment:

‘I will betroth you to me forever; I will betroth you in righteousness and justice, in love and compassion. I will betroth you in faithfulness, and you will acknowledge the LORD.’ (Hosea 2: 19-20)

The great news of the gospel is that God keeps his vows even when we fail to.
