Guns don’t kill people, sin does

Gun control continues to be a hot issue around the world.

This week we were reminded again of the tragedy of last year’s homicide at the Lindt Cafe, and the impact of the failure to control the kind of weapon that should have been eradicated by the 1996 buyback.

The U.S.A. is now starting further discussions on stricter gun control after another firearm-related homicide this week in Virginia.

Those who argue against the control of automatic and semi-automatic weapons claim that, “guns don’t kill people: people kill people.”

Whilst their logic seems somewhat strained, their point is ultimately true.

Because in the end, it is sin that leads someone to pick up a weapon and harm another person made in the image of God.

It might seem pessimistic, but viewing the world God’s way helps us remember that only the final return of Christ will bring an end to this kind of evil.

Notwithstanding, it makes a lot of sense to reduce the number of guns in the general public, and the statistics show the success of this policy.

Yet, the greatest solution to gun-related violence is the power of the Holy Spirit, who turns hatred into love, discord into forbearance, and fits of rage into self-control (see Galatians 5:19-23).

Let’s pray that our world comes to know Jesus more and more.
