Know Your Identity

Last week in the evening service we looked at Hebrews 3:1-6 and examined the identity of the Hebrew Christians, Moses and Jesus. The first verse was pivotal in identifying the Hebrew Christians and comparing them to modern day Christians.

“Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, who share in the heavenly calling, fix your thoughts on Jesus, whom we acknowledge as our apostle and high priest.”

Hebrews 3:1

So “Who do you think you are?”

Do you identify with the Hebrew Christians, a chosen people, sanctified by God, and included in His family as sons and daughters with Christ? Their problem was they struggled to move forward from their traditions and laws.

Or do you identify with Moses who was a great hero to the Hebrews but when compared to Jesus falls short.

Or do you identify with Jesus, our atoning sacrifice, who died that we might live, rose again in triumph, and sits at the right hand of God.

Let’s move from “Who do you think you are?” to “Who do you know you are”.

If we identify with Jesus as our Lord and Saviour, let’s not talk about what we have done or where our grandparents came from but rather be bold and confess that first and foremost you are a follower of Jesus.
