Authority that really works

President Barack Obama speaks in the Rose Garden of the White House on April 17, 2013, in Washington, D.C.

There’s only one thing worse that having no authority: it’s having authority that doesn’t actually work.

This week we’ve seen the most powerful man on the planet fail to succeed in having authority over the people and the situations around him.

President Obama hasn’t yet been able to catch the Boston bombers, he wasn’t able to prevent the Texas explosion, and he has failed to lead his country to gun reform. What’s more, he is powerless to bring back to the life those tragically killed by bombs and guns, and will be unable to heal the people with horrific amputations.

In contrast, Jesus Christ, who wasn’t recognised as a president or king, could change life and history by simply speaking words.

As we look at Mark 1:16-45 this week, we’ll meet ‘The king with authority’, Jesus who rules everything and everyone.

We’d love you to join us this week!
