Scripture in Schools under attack

Scripture in schoolsThis week the NSW Government ordered school principals to prevent Scripture teachers from using three specific Christian books in the classroom.

This unprecedented action comes from strong pressure by a lobby group that seeks to silence any view from schools that does not match the secular, atheistic worldview.

We need to teach our classes in a manner that is consistent with the guidelines set by the school, but the actual content of this special religious education is determined by the religious organisations permitted by law to teach the students of their faith in the time allocated in the school.

People against the message of God’s word do not like to see it taught in state schools, even though it is a feature of the NSW Government system that specific religious instruction is available as part of the rich tapestry of the public system.

Please pray for our Archbishop and for Youthworks as they seek to clarify the details of what seems to be behaviour by the Department of Education and Communities that is inconsistent with the legislation within which they are required to operate.

Please also pray that this painful exercise will help preserve the opportunity for religious teaching in schools that all parents and children in state schools enjoy.
