Father’s Day is always a good opportunity to remember the place of dads in our families.
For many of us it brings joy and happiness, especially when we recall the positive impact of our own father, or the dad of our own kids.
But this special day can also bring sadness when our father is no longer with us, or if he has not lived up to the high standard of parenthood we should expect.
Yet regardless of the positive or the negative experiences we have of fatherhood, there is a perfect father for everyone who trusts in Jesus.
By his Holy Spirit, God leads his children to call God ‘father’, the greatest privilege we could ever have:
‘Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.’ (Galatians 4:6-7)
This Father’s Day let us pray for our dads, encourage each other in our joy and grief, and give thanks to God our Father, who “has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.” (Colossians 1:12).
