The danger of Powerball

lotto-ballsThis week in Oak Flats, someone bought a Powerball ticket that resulted in a win of $23 million.

You would think that this kind of win would bring great happiness and joy to the ‘lucky’ gambler. But God tells us that the love of money will lead to sadness, not happiness:

6 But godliness with contentment is great gain. 7 For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. 8 But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. 9 Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. 10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Timothy 6:6-10)

Money is powerful, but it can bring great harm. Contentment seems far less attractive, yet within it is the greatest source of gain.

Let us pray that we would be content with what God has given us, and that we might not fall into the temptation and trap that can lead us into ruin and destruction.

And let us pray that the ‘lucky’ recipient does not worship their prize winnings instead of Jesus, for in doing so, they will lose their soul and find themselves under God’s judgement.
