What is in a Name?

We each have a first name (used to be Christian names) and they have history attached to them. In turn some have chosen names for their offspring.

Most Christian names stick while some get reduced or even by-passed for an “ungiven” one.

There are family names and traditions such as the first daughter being named after the Mother or Grandmother and so on.

Some names are given to stand out from the crowd. One family with the surname Long, called a son Miles because when he became famous, he would be hard to miss; he ended up “famous” but in prison.

Are you happy with your name?

If you follow Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Saviour you are called Christian and what a life changing name to have into Eternity.

Today a child is to be formally named in Baptism and our prayer is that he will come to know the Lord and serve Him faithfully all the days of his life.

In Matthew’s Gospel Chapter 16:13-16, Jesus asked His Disciples who people generally thought He was. In Verse 15 -16 we read: “He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

Do you claim the name of Christ today and can you be truly called Christian? If you turn to Him and seek His forgiveness you can.
