This week I received a printed flyer in my letterbox that said ‘WARNING: Prepare for a Tsunami to hit the East Coast of Australia.’
Whoever wrote this document said that they’d had several dreams in which they saw a giant wave hit the Illawarra.
So, they published a short document to warn people to turn to God before facing this ‘natural’ disaster upon our coast.
It is true that God uses tragedy to remind people about the judgement that all people will one day face.
When a tower fell on and killed some unsuspecting people, Jesus used that disaster to warn people to repent (Luke chapter 13 verse 3).
So, any time is a good time to remember that God will soon judge all people and that it’s only when we trust in Jesus that we will escape.
But when it comes to having dreams that predict the future, we can’t be sure that they are true revelations from God.
So much so that God warns us to “not believe every spirit… because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” (1John chapter 4 verse 1).
We can only know for certain that God is speaking when we read the words in the Bible.
Everything else might be a false word, even if it is a powerful dream.
We can’t know if God is or is not sending a Tsunami, and we can’t rely on our dreams to know for sure.
But regardless, we should all live as if Jesus is returning today… and make sure we’re friends with him when he comes back.
Are you friends with Jesus? Don’t let today pass by without turning to him and finding forgiveness.
Jodie.
