We all know the damaging effects that exposure to the harsh Australian summer sun can have on our sensitive skin. For this reason the Cancer council of Australia has encouraged us through their advertising campaigns that we need to take steps to protect ourselves. Slip on a shirt, slop on some sunscreen and slap on a hat (they have now included seek some shade and slide on some sunnies) are the instructions that we have been given that will help us to be protected. But I dare say that for many of us, particularly those of us who are younger, we often underestimate the damage that the sun can cause.
The same can be said about sin. The effects of sin are even more damaging, and sadly more often ignored. The apostle Paul reminds us that we need to be protected. Rather than slip, slop and slap Paul tells us:
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. Ephesians 6: 11
This holiday period let’s not be complacent about the damaging effects of sin. Let’s continue to protect ourselves with the armour that God has made available.
