This week we start our month-long series on prayer. We will be considering the Who, Why, How and What of prayer. It will not cover everything, but is intended to both have us reflect on our prayer life and be an encouragement to pray more frequently, deeply and widely.
All of us at church need to be prayed for. We list of people to pray for in our news sheet – those who are unwell, and others with particular needs. Currently there is a large number of people listed with a wide range of challenging issues. Also, due to the current circumstances almost all of us are facing more pressures in life than 12 months ago.
But the time in our church services is insufficient to pray for everyone in detail. So, we must make a point to be praying for one another regularly throughout the week.
So, let’s all pray for one another in our Bible study, youth and children’s groups. If you’re new to praying with other, even just a sentence for someone else is a good starting point – giving thanks for someone or putting their need to God in request. Do not let actual prayer time get squeezed out. It should be a mainstay and something all members are growing in.
Let’s be meeting with one another—as I know many already do—and praying for one another. This could be just with another person, or in a triplet or small group. Some things are so personal you might ask only a couple of people to pray about them for you.
Let’s pray for others in our personal devotional time. Both when you know there is a crisis, but also giving thanks when things are going well for those you know.
The apostle Paul writes:
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. (Ephesians 6:18)
