Are you the kind of person who loses things?
Recently in our house some gold coins have been given out for helping around the house. But just this week I was told, “Dad, I’ve lost one of my 2 coins! Can you help me find it?” So off we went to find the missing $1 coin. “Where did you last have it?” “In the sandpit. I was playing buried treasure.” Needless to say, the gold coin still remains missing to this day.
As we’ve read through John’s gospel, it is clear God gives the gift of eternal life to those who trust in his risen son. In 1 Peter, future benefits of faith in Christ are described as an inheritance.
We may see our houses crumble, our super be reduced, or our precious objects fade away, but what we have in Christ and will receive in heaven will never deteriorate.
Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you (1 Peter 1:3-4)
Note too that this inheritance is kept in heaven for us by God. What a relief! It is safer than houses, more certain than banks and worth more than gold coins. God keeps it for us, and when the time is right, at the return of Christ, he will give it to us to enjoy in the new creation. It will not be lost.
The Christian who fronts up in heaven, will not need to show their accumulated ‘savings’ through life, but will be given abundantly by God in whom they trust.
