One of my strongest childhood memories is going to bed on Christmas Eve, knowing that when I next open my eyes it will be Christmas Day! The feeling of waking up, with the stocking at the end of the day full with toys, is one that is hard to beat.
And now, as my children experience the same anticipation and excitement, I can’t but help sharing the joy of getting what we’ve been waiting for.
For God’s people, the wait for the man who would be their true king, their true saviour, their true redeemer, their true representative, was one that spanned many centuries.
And so you can just start to understand the excitement and joy that would have been felt by the people who heard John the Baptist’s message that the great leader of God’s people was coming… and coming soon.
Today, in our first talk of the sermon series on Mark’s Gospel, ‘Meet the King’, we see just why it was worth waiting for the arrival of Jesus, and why we, today, can share the excitement in meeting the true king of the universe… who loves us and died for us.
We’d love you to join us, especially as we start this new, 23-week series throughout the great Gospel book of Mark.
